UP govt not to give grant to any new madrassa

The Uttar Pradesh government will not give grants to any new madrasas, the state cabinet has decided.

UP Minister of State for Minority Welfare Danish Azad Ansari told PTI on Wednesday that the decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath a day ago.

The minister said that madrasas currently receiving government grants will continue to receive them, but no new beneficiaries will be included in the list.

Asked the reason behind this decision, Ansari said that currently 560 madrasas in the state are receiving government grants.

“It’s a big number. Government is looking at imparting quality education in madrasas. That is why no new madrasas will be included in this list now,” said the minister.

There are a total of 16,461 madrasas in the state, of which 560 are receiving government grants.
