India hosted its 100th G20 meeting, the meeting of Agriculture Chief Scientists (MACS), in Varanasi. The three-day meet was organized by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture, and Farmers Welfare. Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Civil Aviation Gen (Retd) VK Singh, senior officials of other ministries, and 80 delegates from 20 major countries and other partner countries attended.
The first session of the meeting focused on ‘Food Security and Nutrition: The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation’. The second session was based on ‘Resilient Agri-Food Systems’. During this, a message was given, to do nutritious food and friendly farming considering the environment, to keep the world healthy. The Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Civil Aviation, Gen (Retd) VK Singh, addressed the inaugural session.
He said -The meeting proposed “Millets and Other Ancient Grains International Research Initiative (Maharishi)” for deliberations. He added India has the potential to lead the world in the field of millet as we have been growing the superfood for centuries. The delegates visited Kashi, attended Ganga Aarti, on the second day, they attended a session on Digital Agriculture and Sustainable Agricultural Value Chain, and In the evening, they went to Sarnath for a museum and cultural program.
