Vinay M Tonse has been selected as the MD (Managing Director) of the SBI, according to an order by the personnel ministry said.
Previously he was working as the deputy managing director at State Bank of India.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Tonse’s appointment as the MD at SBI up to the date of his superannuation, i.e., Nov. 30, 2025, it said.
India’s largest lender has four MDs and a chairman.
FSIB, the headhunter for directors of state-owned banks and financial institutions, had in Sept. recommended his name for the designation.
The post got vacant after the appointment of Swaminathan Janakiraman as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
