Visakhapatnam’s IT Revolution: Infosys, Google, and TCS Lead Massive Investment Wave

The port city of Visakhapatnam is rapidly cementing its status as India’s newest premier technology hub. In a major boost to the state’s digital economy, IT giant Infosys has announced plans to establish a permanent 20-acre campus in the city. The new facility is designed to accommodate 7,000 employees, signaling a massive leap in the company’s local operations.

This expansion follows a period of exponential growth for Infosys in the region. Since early 2024, the company has scaled its workforce from a modest 250 to nearly 1,900 professionals. With the state government confirming the allotment of land, this permanent campus underscores the “Vizag” transition from a regional center to a global delivery destination.

The surge in investments is not limited to Infosys. The announcement comes on the heels of Google’s landmark $15 billion investment plan for the city. Simultaneously, Cognizant is set to invest Rs 1,583 crore into a world-class IT/ITeS campus expected to generate 8,000 jobs, while Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been allotted a 30-acre parcel for its own expansion. Industry veterans like Wipro are also scaling up, contributing to a maturing ecosystem that includes a government-backed 5 gigawatt (GW) data center capacity for tech titans like Meta and Reliance.

Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics, and Education, credited this transformation to the strength of local talent. “For years, our youth have powered global technology companies from across the world. Today, that same talent is choosing to build their careers here in Andhra Pradesh,” he stated. The minister highlighted that the state’s proactive policies—including the IT, GCC, and LIFT initiatives—are effectively reversing talent migration by creating high-quality local opportunities.

The Infosys expansion is particularly notable for its impact on the local workforce, having already recruited over 1,000 freshers and 500 lateral hires from the region. By fostering synergy between academia and industry, Visakhapatnam is offering a compelling new model for India’s technology-led growth, proving that with robust infrastructure and a “talent-first” approach, the city is ready to compete on the global stage.
