Wangsu investigates ICAR-NRCP partnership in pig farming in Arunachal Pradesh

Gabriel D. Wangsu, the minister of animal husbandry and veterinary affairs for Arunachal Pradesh, visited the ICAR-National Research Centre on Pigs (ICAR-NRCP) in Guwahati on Tuesday to look into potential partnerships to improve pig farming methods in his state. Ensuring access to premium pig breeds, improving feed quality, and offering farmers educational programs to enhance livestock management were the main goals of the visit. Wangsu acknowledged his appreciation with the center’s sophisticated research and high-quality pig breeds during his conversation with senior scientists.

According to an official statement released here, the minister specifically emphasized the Rani breed piglets—a cross between Hampshire and Ghungroo—as a promising addition to the state’s livestock. Wangsu emphasized the necessity of strict feed inspection and quality control procedures in response to worries that contaminated feed would infiltrate Arunachal Pradesh. The minister asked the institute to help create precise guidelines for wholesome pig feed that the state might use. Wangsu also requested ICAR-NRCP to set up training courses for Arunachal Pradesh farmers that would concentrate on contemporary pig farming methods like breeding, disease prevention, and feed management.

The ICAR-NRCP board members and scientists gave a thorough rundown of the institute’s accomplishments, current initiatives, and research efforts. The minister promised the institute that when he returned to Arunachal Pradesh, all official processes required for the purchase of piglets and the formation of partnerships would be accelerated. He underlined that this collaboration will be crucial to enhancing livestock production in the state, enhancing farmers’ livelihoods and advancing regional development as a whole.
