Weather warning in South Bengal; the sea may be rough again

The Alipore Meteorological Department has again issued a warning of heavy rain in South Bengal from next Monday. At least five southern districts are likely to receive heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday. The weather office said that the sea will be rough again. A warning has been issued for fishermen. According to the weather office forecast, heavy rain is likely in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and Jhargram on Monday and Tuesday. These districts may receive scattered rainfall of 7 to 11 cm. Besides, rain with thundershowers is likely in Bankura, Birbhum, and Murshidabad on Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued in these districts.

The Meteorological Office has not issued any weather warnings for the rest of the southern districts, including Kolkata. However, scattered light to moderate rain may occur in different districts. Rain is also likely in North Bengal. Darjeeling and Kalimpong are likely to experience heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday. Chance of rain in Jalpaiguri on Tuesday. A low-pressure area formed over the north and central Bay of Bengal on Friday night, the air office said. It will gradually move north and northeast and condense into a depression. After formation of low pressure, it will move towards west and north-west, reaching the West Bengal coast. Adjacent North Odisha, Jharkhand, and North Chhattisgarh will also be affected. Due to this depression, rains may increase in South Bengal from Monday.

Seas are likely to be rough from Sunday to Tuesday, the Met Office said. At that time, gusty winds of 40 to 50 km per hour will blow over the central Bay of Bengal and adjacent North Bay of Bengal. Wind gusts can reach 60 kilometers per hour. Fishermen off the coast of West Bengal and Odisha have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period. Those who have gone have been asked to return by the morning of the 8th. The temperature in Kolkata has risen. Kolkata’s minimum temperature on Saturday was 28.7 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature in the city on Friday was 34.2 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees above normal.
