West Siang Sets Up Pioneering Mithun Bank Aimed at Wildlife Conflict Reduction and Peaceful Coexistence

Residents of Potom village in Arunachal Pradesh have established the region’s first mithun bank to mitigate human-wildlife conflict and support families who have lost livestock to predators. Launched with assistance from the Wildlife Trust of India and other conservation organizations, the initiative provides initial livestock and materials to enhance livestock enclosure safety. Community leaders emphasize the cultural and ecological importance of both mithuns and local wildlife, advocating for peaceful coexistence rather than retaliatory killings. This pioneering project aims to protect biodiversity and serves as a model for neighboring villages.
