Wife leaves home after husband uses tomatoes for cooking

In a shocking incident, a husband in Madhya Pradesh complained to the police that his wife left home after an argument over ‘putting tomatoes’ in food. The incident took place in Dhanpuri of Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh.

The man, known as Sandeep Barman, runs a small dhaba (food) in Dhanpuri. He told the police that he had prepared food to supply the tiffin and added two to three tomatoes, which upset his wife. A heated argument broke out between the husband and wife over the addition of tomatoes sold at Rs 140 per kg. Soon after the argument, his wife left the house.

Dhanpuri police station’s Sanjay Jaiswal confirmed the incident. He said the complainant had stated that his wife had left home with their minor daughter due to his dissatisfaction with the tomatoes used in the food. Jaiswal, however, said his wife had agreed to return home on the advice of the police.

Tomato prices have skyrocketed in Madhya Pradesh and across the country. In the retail market across the country, the price has reached Rs 150-160 per kg. Apart from tomatoes, the prices of almost all vegetables, for example, including ladyfinger, have increased from Rs 20 to Rs 45-50 per kg.

The prices of other vegetables such as bottled bitter gourd, and sponge gourd, increased significantly, reaching the rupee. 45-50 per kilogram. In response to the hike in vegetable prices, an innovative offer was recently made by the owner of a mobile shop in Ashoknagar, who provided two kilograms of tomatoes to customers who purchased a mobile device from his shop.

Rising vegetable prices have become a talking point in political circles. Congress MLA Kalpana Verma made a statement wearing garlands of tomatoes and chilies during the monsoon session of the Assembly. Congress workers staged protests in different parts of the state, expressing dissatisfaction over the hike in vegetable prices.
