Wipro launches AI centre in IIT Delhi

IT giant Wipro has inaugurated a new Centre of Excellence (CoE) focusing on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. This partnership aligns with Wipro’s commitment to investing $1 billion to drive AI-led innovation as part of the AI360 ecosystem.

Housed within IIT Delhi’s Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence, the Wipro CoE in GenAI will strengthen fundamental and applied research, nurture talent and advance the state-of-the-art field.

“We are thrilled to partner with IIT Delhi for accelerated innovation in some of the most promising emerging areas of technology,” said Subha Tatavarti, Chief Technology Officer, Wipro. “This collaboration will not only improve our R&D capabilities in growing areas like GenAI but also connect us to a talent pool that can help us create advanced solutions to address current and future business challenges.”

Serving as a center for research and development, the CoE will bring together Wipro researchers with faculty members and graduate students from IIT Delhi, focusing on real-world problems on a large scale. Teams in the Wipro CoE will collaborate to develop leading-edge solutions using AI, machine learning and related technologies.

IT services companies are placing significant bets on GenAI, as numerous large digital transformation contracts are being driven by this emerging technology. Wipro recently launched an 8-week accelerator program targeting GenAI startups across Silicon Valley in India and the US.
