Biodiversity rich Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary (DEMWS) in Arunachal Pradesh has significant eco-tourism potential that could benefit local communities, contingent upon their support for wildlife protection efforts. Kempi Ete, Divisional Forest Officer, emphasized the importance of community involvement during an awareness program aimed at preventing wildlife crimes. The initiative, supported by Aaranyak and local Community Surveillance and Monitoring Teams (CSMT), encourages residents to promote the sanctuary through wildlife photography and social media. Ete highlighted the legal consequences of hunting and illegal fishing, referencing the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Local leaders advocated for ongoing community education to ensure sustained support for wildlife conservation and highlighted the potential for job creation through enhanced protection measures in the sanctuary.
