Woman meets with son three years after hospital switched her newborn in Assam’s Barpeta

Three years after a hospital in Assam’s Barpeta district changed a woman’s new baby, she was finally in a position to be reunited with her son on a court order.

Three years ago, two pregnant women were admitted to a government hospital in Assam’s Barpeta district where they gave birth to two babies, but one baby was stillborn.

Due to the similarity of the names, the medical institution transferred the baby to another woman instead of the real mother Nazma Khanum. After the court order, according to the DNA report, the real mother is in a position to have her child after three years.

Advocate Abdul Mannan said Najma Khanam’s family members claimed that she gave birth to a healthy baby and that the baby could not die.

“Three days later, the family members checked the list of pregnant girls who had given birth at the hospital and they discovered that two women with comparable names – Najma Khanam and Nazma Khatun – had given birth to two babies and one of the two babies. died,” said Abdul Mannan.

The police investigation revealed that the child was given to another woman named Najma Khatun of Gosaigaon as an alternative to Najma Khanam due to the similarity of the name.
