A two-day workshop on the development of Monpa Handmade Paper was held at the Tsangbu Monpa Handmade Paper Centre in Tawang to revitalize this indigenous craft. Sponsored by the Directorate of Science and Technology and KVIC, the workshop was organized by KNHPI in collaboration with YASW. Under the mentorship of Dr. Rakesh Kumar Jain from UNIDO, the event aimed to explore the cultural significance of Mon-Shugu and its commercial applications. Tawang Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo encouraged the adaptation of scientific methods in traditional practices to create new livelihood opportunities. Experts introduced participants to eco-friendly pulping techniques and innovations for premium markets. The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from local artisans and youth, focusing on combining traditional knowledge with modern techniques to enhance sustainability and market competitiveness, aiming to position Tawang as a global hub for handmade paper entrepreneurship.
