Yamaha bets on growing premium segment with global debut of YZF-R2 in India

India Yamaha Motor has made the global debut of its all-new YZF-R2 in India, marking the company’s entry into the competitive 200cc premium motorcycle segment as it seeks to tap rising demand for performance-oriented bikes.Priced from Rs 2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the YZF-R2 will be available in three variants, with prices going up to Rs 2,53,000 for the range-topping YZF-R2M. The motorcycle will be offered in five colour options and reach Yamaha Blue Square dealerships across India from mid-September 2026.

Built on an all-new platform, the YZF-R2 is powered by a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 26.5 PS and 19.1 Nm of torque. Yamaha said the motorcycle weighs 149 kg, positioning it as the lightest in its segment. The bike comes with features including traction control, assist and slipper clutch, Yamaha Ride Control with Street, Sport and Rain modes, 37 mm USD front forks and dual-channel ABS. Higher variants receive a segment-first third-generation bi-directional quick shifter, while the R2M adds adjustable suspension and premium components.

Yamaha said the launch strengthens its premium R-series portfolio as India’s 200cc motorcycle market continues to grow. Chairman Hajime Aota said the YZF-R2 reflects the company’s long-term growth strategy and confidence in India’s growing role in its global product development plans.
