Yezdi Roadster wins car&bike ‘Bike Design of the Year’; classic motorcycle earns top design honour

The Yezdi Roadster from Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles has won the prestigious “Bike Design of the Year” award at the car&bike Awards, recognising its bold and defiant design philosophy. The motorcycle, described as ‘Born Out of Line’, continues to gain accolades after earlier being named the “Best 350cc Motorcycle” at the Zee Media Auto Awards this year. The award was received by Boman Irani, Co-founder of Classic Legends, from renowned automotive designer Thomas Dal, Dean of Strate School of Design India. The recognition highlights the Roadster’s reinterpretation of the classic roadster format with a planted silhouette, muscular proportions and modular design versatility.

Designed to be long, low and visually commanding, the Yezdi Roadster blends cruiser-inspired stance with everyday roadster ergonomics. It features a sculpted 12.5-litre fuel tank inspired by Yezdi’s design heritage, a wide rear stance with one of the widest rear tyres in its segment, and a chopped rear fender that enhances its bobber-style aesthetic. Powered by a liquid-cooled 350cc Alpha2 engine with a first-in-segment 6-speed gearbox and assist and slipper clutch, the motorcycle also focuses on rider comfort through accessible seat height and relaxed ergonomics.

Speaking on the recognition, Boman Irani said the Roadster was created by rethinking classic motorcycle proportions while remaining true to Yezdi’s rebellious character. Akhilesh Manchandani, Head of Concept Design at Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles, said the design aimed to balance a planted, rebellious look with everyday practicality. The design philosophy is also reflected in the Shadow Black edition, which eliminates chrome and silver finishes to achieve a stealth all-black aesthetic rarely seen in the category.

In Kolkata,  motorcycle market has shown increasing interest in retro-modern motorcycles, particularly in the mid-capacity 300-350cc segment. Dealers in the region say motorcycles like the Yezdi Roadster appeal to urban riders looking for classic styling combined with modern features. With a starting price of Rs. 1.96 lakh (ex-showroom) and availability through authorised dealerships across India, the model is expected to strengthen Classic Legends’ presence in key markets such as Kolkata.
