Amazon Music Breaks Out of the Prime Bubble with New Standalone Tiers

The newly introduced tiers are priced competitively at ₹99 per month for existing Amazon Prime members and ₹119 per month for non-Prime members. According to Rishabh Gupta, Head of Amazon Music India, this strategic pivot comes after eight years of observing massive evolution in the local streaming landscape. While the service initially served as an added perk bundled within the Prime ecosystem, consumer demand for dedicated music platforms has skyrocketed. Gupta notes that both customer needs and Amazon’s own product capabilities have matured enough to warrant a standalone existence.

By decoupling from the Prime bundle, Amazon Music is directly positioning itself to compete with industry giants like Spotify and Wynk. Next month’s rollout of a free, ad-supported tier is expected to further democratize the platform, allowing Amazon to aggressively scale its user base across India’s rapidly growing digital economy.
