Tata Motors clocks 17% growth in May as commercial vehicle demand remains strong

Tata Motors Limited reported a strong performance in May 2026, registering a 17 per cent year-on-year growth in total commercial vehicle sales across domestic and international markets. The company sold 32,850 units during the month, compared to 28,147 units in May 2025, reflecting sustained demand across key vehicle segments.

Domestic sales rose 19 per cent to 30,784 units from 25,872 units a year ago, while international business sales declined 9 per cent to 2,066 units from 2,275 units. Among segments, SCV cargo and pickup vehicles recorded the highest growth of 30 per cent, with sales increasing to 11,819 units. Passenger carriers grew 21 per cent to 5,757 units, HCV truck sales rose 11 per cent to 7,877 units, and ILMCV truck sales increased 8 per cent to 5,331 units.

Domestic sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MH&ICV) stood at 13,679 units in May, up 10 per cent from 12,406 units in the corresponding month last year. Combined domestic and international MH&ICV sales grew 7 per cent to 14,596 units.

Kolkata has emerged as an important growth centre for commercial vehicles, supported by rising infrastructure activity, logistics expansion and increasing freight movement across eastern India. Industry stakeholders noted that demand for cargo carriers, trucks and passenger transport vehicles has remained healthy in and around Kolkata, contributing to the overall momentum seen in the commercial vehicle sector.
