The Assam government has ordered a reshuffle of forest officials, appointing Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Kadam Suhas Tarachand as Deputy Director of Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve, with additional charge as its in-charge Field Director.
According to a notification issued by the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department on October 27, Tarachand, an IFS officer of the 2014 batch, has been transferred from his post as Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Nagaon Division.
He replaces T. Sheshidhar Reddy, an IFS officer of the 2020 batch, who has been transferred to Goalpara Division as DFO. Reddy takes over from Tejas Mariswamy, an IFS officer of the 2013 batch.
Mariswamy has been posted to Jorhat as Deputy Conservator of Forests in the office of the Conservator of Forests, Eastern Assam Circle. He will also hold additional charge as in-charge Conservator of Forests.
The notification also relieves Sonali Ghosh, an IFS officer of the 2000 batch and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, of her additional charge as Field Director of Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve.
The changes form part of a wider reshuffle involving officers of both the Indian Forest Service and the Assam Forest Service (AFS), with several officials assigned new responsibilities in different forest divisions and offices across the state.
In another transfer, Subodh Talukder, an AFS officer serving as DFO of Kamrup West Division, has been posted as Planning Officer-II in the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force (PCCF & HoFF), Assam.
Ashok Deb Choudhury, an AFS officer currently serving as DFO of Kamrup East Division in Guwahati, has been transferred to Kamrup West Division, Bamunigaon. He will, however, retain additional charge of Kamrup East Division.
Meanwhile, Biswajyoti Das, an AFS officer serving as DFO of Sonitpur West Division in Tezpur, has been assigned additional responsibility as DFO of Nagaon Division on a temporary basis, with immediate effect.
The notification states that the transfers and postings will take effect from the dates on which the officers assume their respective charges and will remain in force until further orders. The provision for immediate effect will apply where specifically mentioned in the notification.
With the latest reshuffle, the state government has reassigned responsibilities across several forest divisions and administrative offices, including Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve, one of Assam’s important wildlife conservation areas.
