KPC Medical College invests in solar power plant to cut electricity costs

KPC Medical College & Hospital, Jadavpur, has commissioned a 100 kWp solar power plant at one of its units, marking what the institution describes as the first such installation among private medical colleges in Kolkata. The project is expected to reduce electricity expenditure and support the institution’s long-term energy requirements.

The plant was inaugurated by Sarbori Mukherjee, MLA from Jadavpur, and Dr Santipada (S.P.) Gon Chaudhuri, former managing director of the West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA) and a Green Oscar awardee.

Debabrata Dutta, CEO of KPC Medical College, said the investment is expected to recover its cost in approximately three years, with electricity cost savings continuing for another 25 to 30 years.

The plant was designed and installed by Innovel Energy Services Pvt. Ltd., formerly Bhaskar Solar. Partha P. Chatterjee, the company’s CEO, said the project reflected its focus on quality design, engineering and installation, adding that it could encourage other healthcare and educational institutions to adopt solar energy.

Krishna Das, secretary of KPC Medical College and Hospital Society, and Sapna Dutta of KPC Group were among those present. Established in 2006, KPC Medical College is affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and is the state’s first private medical college. Founded in 2002, Innovel Energy Services has completed more than 250,000 installations.
