Assam Rifles conduct civic action programmes

Various battalions of Assam Rifles conducted civic action programmes in the state for the welfare of public.

Chieswema Battalion: Chieswema battalion established eight new solar street lights at Marian village, Wozuro sub-division of Wokha district.

According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), the solar lights will also augment security during the night. Meanwhile, to commemorate Army Day, Chieswema Battalion conducted a medical camp for Razeiba range comprising of Zhavame, Razeiba, Tsufume and Zelume on January 15. 

The camp accompanied by SMO along with eye specialist, Dr. Weweu provided eye check-up, ENT preliminary diagnosis and regular check-up for ailments such as common cold, cough, aches and pains. 

About 200 patients of all age groups were treated, provided with spectacles, hearing aids and some with serious ailments were also referred to Naga Hospital for further diagnosis.

Ghaspani Battalion: Ghaspani Battalion conducted an awareness programme for youths of Medziphema, Zubza, Piphema, Kukidolong and Nihokhu as part of Indian Army recruitment drive on January 15. Fifty five youths and village elders attended the programme.

Jalukie Battalion: Jalukie battalion organised coaching classes for Sainik School entrance examination to assist and give students a better insight into the conduct of entrance examination. 

They were provided with study materials as well as guide books. Regular classes are also being conducted to give students a better understanding and address their queries.

Meanwhile, the battalion also assisted the public in road repair in Tening on January 12. The troops helped the public by clearing and repairing the road connecting Tening to Ngam village. 

Due to frequent movement of vehicles, the road conditions were deteriorated and required continuous maintenance. 

Troops of Assam Rifles along with few civilians carried out local repairs on the road and made it pliable for vehicles.

Jalukie Battalion also conducted “join army campaign” at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Peren on January 17. 

An awareness lecture on upcoming Army recruitment rally at Rangapahar Military Station was conducted by the security forces for the students. 

Students were briefed about the various types of entries, academic eligibility, physical standards and documents required for the recruitment and were also told about the other entries like NDA/CDS/OTA to join Indian army as officers. A total of 92 students attended the lecture. Jalukie Battalion further organised a free medical camp at Samzuiram. 30 children were provided medical assistance. Altogether, 182 villagers benefitted from the camp.

Mon Battalion: Mon battalion conducted interaction with GBs, Angh, village council members and student bodies on January 11 and 12 at Mon.

Various issues pertaining to poor infrastructure and basic amenities were discussed. 

The battalion also assured of working in coordination with civil administration to improve the same. 

The youths were encouraged to participate and enrol in the forthcoming recruitment rallies and were apprised of free coaching being provided by the battalion for the same. 

Tuensang Battalion: Tuensang battalion conducted a medical camp to provide medical assistance to villagers especially the old, handicapped, orphaned and the women unable to visit hospitals at far distances. 56 villagers benefitted from the camp where free medicines were also provided in addition to educating people on the importance of timely vaccination, personal hygiene and sanitation Meanwhile, the battalion handed over wheelchair to a 110-year old man residing along the remote border village of Wangti region in Mon district on January 19, in the presence of village authorities.

The villagers expressed gratitude towards the security forces for the noble gesture.

Kiphire Battalion: Kiphire battalion constructed a play ground at remote border village of Khongsa, Kiphire district. Based on request of village council, Assam Rifles provided JCB and technical staff to supervise and prepare the ground which was a requirement of the village for use in sports as well as community related activities.  

Phek Battalion: Phek battalion conducted pre-recruitment screening test at battalion headquarter on January 18. 

The aim of the programme was to select desirable candidates who would be given training for recruitment in Army/Assam Rifles. 

A total of 27 individuals from Phek, Mokokchung, Dimapur and Pfutsero were screened and 21 individuals were found fit after initial documentation and medical checkup. Screening test would continue from January 18 to 20 whereby selected individuals will undergo training at Phek Battalion for 45 days and attend recruitment rally at Rangpahar on March 10 to 20.
