Assam’s Vikas Yatra: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma launches Rs 640 crore welfare projects in Kamrup

In a monumental stride towards development and infrastructure enhancement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a slew of welfare projects worth Rs 640 crore in Kamrup Metro today under the ambit of the Vikas Yatra. Leading a transformative phase with numerous inaugural projects, Chief Minister Sarma spearheaded the inauguration alongside esteemed dignitaries including Keshab Mahanta, Parimal Suklabaidya, Sanjoy Kishan, Queen Oja, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, and Atul Bora. Among the diverse projects unveiled, the State Cancer Institute in Guwahati stood out as a beacon of hope, with an investment of Rs 395 crores aimed at providing cashless health services and catering to patients not only from Assam but the entire Northeast region. Simultaneously, the inauguration of Kar Bhawan in Ganeshguri, costing Rs 112 crores, promises to streamline tax management and bolster the state’s economic infrastructure.

A noteworthy addition to the initiative is the inauguration of a Night Shelter for home and construction workers in Rehabari, Guwahati, with an expenditure of Rs 15 crores. This pioneering endeavor offers affordable accommodation for 200 workers, addressing their immediate needs and ensuring improved living conditions. Furthermore, the expansion of the Purabi Dairy Plant in Panjabari, costing Rs 49 crores, aims at enhancing dairy processing capabilities, establishing markets for dairy farmers, and augmenting milk production to ensure better nutrition for consumers.

The introduction of the B. Barooah Cancer Institute PET CT Project in Kalapahar, with an investment of Rs 13 crores, heralds a new era in cancer diagnosis and treatment, aiming to benefit approximately 1500-2000 cancer patients annually. The day also witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for the North Guwahati-Umananda Modular Terminal, set to accommodate around 2000 passengers daily at Umananda River Terminal, thereby providing a significant boost to the tourism sector.
