Drugs worth an estimated Rs 39.4 crore were seized in Guwahati, and two suspected drug traffickers were arrested, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a truck near the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) and conducted a search. The operation led to the seizure of 10 soap cases containing heroin and 1,40,000 YABA tablets.
Sharing details of the operation on social media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Guwahati Police for intercepting the truck and recovering the large consignment of drugs.
The police also apprehended two persons suspected of being involved in drug trafficking, the Chief Minister said.
Sarma asserted that the Assam government’s campaign against drugs would continue with full force. He said such operations were aimed at preventing drugs from reaching young people and protecting the future of the state’s youth.
YABA, also known as “crazy medicine” in Thai, is a tablet containing a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant drug.
