Team India have received a major boost ahead of next month’s two-Test series against Sri Lanka, with star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah being declared fit by the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Bumrah was included in the squad only after successfully clearing his fitness assessment. The pacer had suffered an impact injury during the recent ODI series against England, which forced him to miss the third ODI at Lord’s.
According to a senior BCCI official quoted by PTI, Bumrah has made a full recovery and completed all the mandatory fitness tests at the Centre of Excellence. The official also expressed confidence that the ace pacer will be available for both Test matches, describing him as one of India’s most valuable players.
India will begin the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka on August 15 in Galle, while the second and final Test will be played in Colombo from August 23.
The series holds significant importance for India’s World Test Championship campaign. To remain in contention for a place in the WTC final, India need to win seven of their remaining nine Test matches. A 2-0 series victory in Sri Lanka would provide the perfect platform before the team heads to New Zealand for a challenging away assignment.
