The death rate in the Hooch tragedy in Saran district of Bihar has jumped up to 70 which is the highest in the last 6 years. Inspite of the strict rules and regulations against the consumption of alcohol, the system has not been successful in keeping a check on the illegal manufacture and sale of spurious liquor, which is easy to make and sold at cheaper prices.
The incident came into light on Wednesday when approximately 9 people died due to the consumption of spurious liquor in the Saran district.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to appoint its own investigation team headed by one of its members for an on-spot probe in the wake of Bihar’s hooch tragedy.
