Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated an Arecanut Processing Unit by SSB Agro in Buhchangphai. The event was attended by Agriculture Minister P.C. Vanlalruata and other officials. The Chief Minister noted that Mizoram has approximately 30,000 hectares of arecanut cultivation, predicting a production of about 2 lakh quintals for 2024-25. He emphasized the need for improved plantation management due to losses from water stress and nutrient deficiency. The government is actively combating illegal trade and expects new processing units to enhance farmer market outcomes. P.C. Vanlalruata highlighted the importance of processing for stable markets and announced similar initiatives for other crops like ginger and turmeric.
