‘Chai pe charcha’: held by Lalu and Mulayam, with Akhilesh also present

AGENCY: On Monday, Lalu Prasad, the president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), met with Mulayam Singh Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Over a cup of tea, the seasoned leaders got together. Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam’s son and the leader of the Samajwadi Party, was also present at the meeting.

“I met with Mulayam Singh ji, the country’s most senior socialist leader, to check about his health. Ours is a united front against inequity, illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, and issues affecting farmers “Lalu posted a few photos from his meeting with Mulayam, who is 81 years old.

Both Lalu, 73, and Mulayam have been unwell for just a long time. Since being granted bail in a fodder fraud case in April this year, Lalu has been receiving treatment in Delhi for a variety of health ailments.

While the full details of the meeting between the two veteran leaders were not immediately available, the get-together came at a time when rumours of a third front to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 elections were circulating.

After West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent trip to Delhi, the Lok Sabha elections have surfaced. Uttar Pradesh will hold elections in 2022 as well. During a 5-day visit to Delhi last week, Mamata met with several political figures, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. She also spoke with Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on the phone.

Mamata Banerjee, who won Bengal for the third time after a brutal Assembly election in April/May, called her visit to Delhi as “successful.”

“Democracy must remain. The trip was a success. For political reasons, I met a lot of my colleagues. We got together for political reasons. Democracy must continue to exist. ‘Save democracy, save country’ is our rallying cry. Every two months, I’ll visit here “Before returning to Kolkata, Mamata told reporters.
