Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) authorities will subsidize electricity only to those citizens of the national capital who want it. He said residents will be asked if they want to go ahead with the subsidy and the exercise in this regard will begin soon.
“The Delhi government will now ask people whether they want to get electricity subsidy or not. From October 1, only those consumers who opt for it will be provided the subsidy,” he said during an online briefing.
Currently, customers in Delhi run a “zero” energy bill for up to 200 power devices and get a subsidy of ₹800 for powering 201 to 400 gadgets per month.
Kejriwal made this announcement while practically launching the Delhi Startup Policy. Noting that the Delhi Cabinet has passed the Delhi Startup Policy, the AAP convener said, “We are dedicated towards making Delhi a startup capital of India.” As part of the policy, Delhi’s formative years will receive financial support from the government to help businesses operate in the national capital.
The Chief Minister said that the authority will constitute a panel of chartered accountants and attorneys where entrepreneurs can try to seek help. Stating that the government will provide relief to entrepreneurs, Kejriwal said that students of state-run institutions can take leave for one to two years to focus on their business.
