New Delhi, Retail sales of electric passenger vehicles grew 19 per cent to 8,968 units in February, with Tata Motors topping the segment, according to data released by dealers’ body FADA.
Total electric passenger vehicle retail sales stood at 7,539 units in the same month last year.
Tata Motors sold 3,825 units last month, while MG Motor India sold 3,270 units.
FADA President CS Vigneshwar said in a statement, “Electric passenger vehicles recorded a good growth of 18.95 per cent year-on-year, reflecting growing consumer awareness and adoption of EVs in the personal mobility segment, now achieving a market share of 3 per cent.” Two-wheeler sales stood at 76,086 units last month, down 8 per cent as compared to 82,745 units in February 2024. Bajaj Auto led the segment with retail sales of 21,389 units last month.
“The electric two-wheeler segment witnessed a decline of 8.05 per cent but maintained a significant market share of 5.6 per cent, underlining the continued demand for affordable EV mobility solutions,” Vigneshwar said.
Electric three-wheeler retail sales grew 5 per cent year-on-year to 53,116 units in February.
On the other hand, electric commercial vehicle sales saw a 1 per cent year-on-year growth to 856 units in February.
The segment has crossed the crucial market share threshold of 1 per cent, reflecting incremental but steady progress towards electrification of commercial fleets, Vigneshwar said.
He added, “As an industry, we must continue collaborative efforts towards enhancing charging infrastructure, policy incentives and awareness initiatives to unleash the full potential of EV adoption in India.”
