France on Tuesday announced a ‘solidarity mission’ for India which it will send oxygen generation plants, ventilators and other medical supplies to support the country in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has said that it has conducted an exceptional solidarity mission in support of the Indian people, who has been severely damaged by covid-19 pandemic.
“The mission, coordinated by the ministry’s Crisis and Support Center and led by the French Embassy in India, will include the provision of air and sea transport this weekend,” the ministry said in a statement.
Emmanuel Lenin, the French ambassador to India, said the “huge solidarity mission” was supported by French agencies present in India and the European Union.
The ministry said the supplies were being sent in response to demand expressed by the Indian authorities and their purpose was not only to deal with emergencies, but also to significantly increase the capacity of Indian hospitals to “treat the sick and fight epidemics”.
