Kanpur DM Neha Sharma transferred days after violence

Days after violence broke out in parts of Kanpur after Friday prayers, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday transferred district magistrate (DM) Neha Sharma, in a predominant bureaucratic reshuffle in the state. Sharma will be replaced by way of chief minister’s office exclusive secretary Vishak G Iyer. Sharma has been posted as director of nearby bodies.

The district magistrates of Ballia, Aligarh, Basti, Jalaun, Etawah, Firozabad and Gorakhpur have also been changed. According to reports, modern Lucknow DM Abhishek Prakash has now been posted as secretary of the industrial department.

Clashes had erupted on June three in components of Kanpur as contributors of two communities indulged in brick-batting and hurled bombs over attempts to shut stores in protest against “insulting” feedback on Prophet Mohammed by using suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for the duration of a TV debate.

The police have so far arrested 50 people in connection with the Kanpur violence. Around 10 greater suspects have been detained for questioning.

Besides, a 16-year-old boy walked into the Colonelganj police station and surrendered after his picture regarded on posters put up with the aid of police, DCP (East) Pramod Kumar said.
