MHIP praised for decades of social service and role in women’s rights in Mizoram

Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.) has extended his greetings to the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) on the occasion of its 52nd Foundation Day, praising the organisation for its longstanding contribution to women’s empowerment, social welfare and the preservation of Mizo culture.

In his message issued on Sunday, the Governor congratulated the members of MHIP and acknowledged the organisation’s service since its establishment on July 6, 1974, under the motto “Service to Others.” He said the voluntary organisation has grown into one of Mizoram’s leading women’s groups through its sustained efforts for the welfare of women and vulnerable sections of society.

The Governor noted that over the past five decades, MHIP has played an important role in protecting women’s rights, addressing violence and discrimination, and advocating reforms related to marriage, divorce and inheritance laws. He said the organisation’s initiatives in education, health awareness, legal assistance and social service have helped empower women and families across the state.

Referring to MHIP’s guiding principle of promoting women’s welfare, justice and empowerment through social service, Singh said the organisation has made valuable contributions to society and has earned widespread recognition for its work. He also recalled that MHIP was honoured with the Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2016 in recognition of its efforts.

Expressing confidence in the organisation’s future role, the Governor said MHIP would continue to work closely with the government, non-governmental organisations and various sections of society in implementing welfare programmes for women and children.

He said women are the foundation of every family, where values are nurtured and future generations are shaped, and expressed hope that MHIP members would continue to contribute to the development of a Viksit Mizoram while supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
