State pushes for bamboo-based industries and MSME office to drive industrial growth

The Mizoram government has urged the Centre to support the establishment of large-scale ginger processing units and promote the wider use of bamboo in key industries as part of its efforts to strengthen the state’s economy and create more value from its natural resources.

The proposals were placed before Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State Jitin Prasada during a meeting in New Delhi by Mizoram Commerce and Industries Minister F. Rodingliana, according to an official statement.

During the meeting, Rodingliana sought central assistance for setting up large-scale ginger processing facilities and improving marketing infrastructure for ginger, one of Mizoram’s most important agricultural crops. He said better processing facilities and stronger market linkages would help farmers receive improved returns while encouraging value addition within the state.

Highlighting Mizoram’s strong production of ginger, the minister said the state has the potential to emerge as the “Ginger Capital of India.” He stressed that investment in processing units, storage facilities and market access would help unlock new opportunities for growers and increase the crop’s contribution to the state’s economy.

Rodingliana also requested support for expanding the use of bamboo from Mizoram in industries such as textiles and paper. He said greater industrial use of bamboo would enhance the commercial value of the state’s abundant bamboo resources while creating new business opportunities and employment.

In another key proposal, the minister urged the Centre to establish a Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development and Facilitation Office in Mizoram. He said such an office would provide better support to local entrepreneurs, improve access to government schemes and strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem.

The meeting formed part of discussions between the Centre and states on measures to promote industrial development and expand business opportunities. Commerce and Industries Secretary H. Lianzela accompanied the minister during the discussions.
