Mizoram MP urges Civil Aviation Minister for additional airport in Southern region

Mizoram Lok Sabha MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha met with Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Thursday to discuss the urgent need for an additional airport in southern Mizoram. During the meeting, MP Richard emphasized that the current Lengpui Airport is insufficient to meet the needs of Mizoram’s population. He highlighted the difficulties faced by residents traveling from various parts of the state to the lone airport.

Richard also pointed out the urgent need for a new airport in the southern region of Mizoram, noting that a survey has already been conducted to identify a suitable site. Minister Kinjarapu expressed his commitment to developing an airport in southern Mizoram once the site is finalized.

Additionally, MP Richard informed the Minister that the number of flights to Lengpui Airport has decreased, exacerbated by the fact that tribal communities from Manipur can no longer use Imphal Airport due to the communal violence in May 2023. He urged the Minister to increase flight services to better serve the people of Mizoram.
