Mizoram's UD&PA Minister K. Sapdanga inaugurated the state's first Common Bio Medical Waste Treatment Plant at Tuirial on Wednesday. The project, costing Rs. 9.71 crore, marks a significant advancement in Mizoram's healthcare infrastructure. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, contributed Rs. 2 crore to the project, which falls under the Aizawl Smart City Ltd initiative in collaboration with the Mizoram Pollution Control Board. Constructed within the Aizawl Municipal Corporation Solid Waste Management Centre, the plant adheres to the Bio Medical Waste Management Rules 2016. After four days of great display of passion and grit, winners from Mizoram received 3 gold and 6 silver medals in the IndiaSkills 2021 Regional Competition for the Eastern Zone. Overall, 98 candidates from 8 states and union territory were declared winners in the competition. The head of the world's largest family has died in the Mizoram state. 76 year old Ziona Chana, the head of a religious sect that practiced polygamy, died on Sunday, leaving behind 38 wives, 89 children and 36 grandchildren. Chana reportedly suffered from diabetes and hypertension. Doctors said that Chana was rushed to hospital on Sunday evening when his condition deteriorated at home in his village, Baktawng Tlangnuam. Two back to back earthquakes strike Manipur on Monday evening, according to the National Centre for Seismology.The two earthquakes were reported within 13 minutes of each other. Quoting the National Centre for Seismology, he said the earthquake happened at 4.10 am and the epicentre was at Zokhawthar in Champhai district on the India-Myanmar border. The tremors were felt in several parts of the state, including state capital Aizawl, he said. Several houses and buildings, including a church at Zokhawthar in Khawbunga, in Champhai district have been partly damaged due to the quake, he said.
