Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has emphasized the urgent need for expanded welfare access and robust disaster preparedness during a series of high-level review meetings held at Lok Bhavan. The Governor’s directives focus on bringing government services directly to the people, particularly those in vulnerable and remote communities.
In a review with the Social Welfare Department, Governor Yadav called for the organization of block- and village-level camps to streamline the issuance of disability certificates. Working in coordination with the Health and Family Welfare Department, these camps are intended to remove administrative barriers for persons with disabilities. During the briefing, Director Tosheli Zhimomi outlined the progress of flagship initiatives, including Mission Shakti, Mission Vatsalya, and Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0. The Governor urged officials to strengthen the implementation of these schemes to ensure that nutrition, child protection, and women’s empowerment goals are met effectively across the state.
Beyond social welfare, the Governor shifted focus to the state’s readiness for the upcoming monsoon season. With forecasts predicting normal to above-normal rainfall despite potential El Niño conditions, the administration is bracing for risks related to flash floods and landslides. Various departments presented comprehensive district-level plans, which include the activation of emergency control rooms and the strategic deployment of heavy machinery in high-risk zones.
The Public Works Department informed the Governor that major highways are under constant surveillance, with alternative routes already identified to maintain essential connectivity during potential road closures. Similarly, the Kohima district administration has established dedicated task forces and medical preparedness protocols to ensure the steady supply of essential commodities and efficient traffic management throughout the rainy season.
Concluding the sessions, Governor Yadav expressed appreciation for the ongoing efforts but stressed that success depends on vigilant inter-departmental coordination and the timely dissemination of information to the public. He directed all agencies to remain on high alert to minimize disruptions to daily life and to protect the well-being of all citizens during the seasonal transition.
