Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday launched the online registration portal for migrant workers under the Meghalaya Identification Registration (Safety and Security) of Migrant Workers Act 2020, in a function organized by the Labour Department at the NIC Conference Hall, Shillong. The aim of the Meghalaya Identification Registration (Safety and Security) of Migrant Workers Act 2020 is to ensure the maintenance of public order and protection and safety of migrant workers in Meghalaya through identification and mandatory registration of all such workers in the State. Timber smuggler shot dead in East Karbi Anglong

In a major development, a suspected timber smuggler has been shot dead by a team of forest department officials under Silonijan Range in East Karbi Anglong on Thursday. As per reports, the team of forest department officials confronted a group of timber smuggler inside the Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary and demanded that they surrender. Newspapers in Manipur failed to hit the stands for the second consecutive day on Friday as journalists continued their cease work strike against threat by armed rebel groups. News broadcasting by local cable networks also remained suspended. Cop hurt in clash with protesters in Manipur
