Farmers’ market inaugurated in Mokokchung

Director Rural Development, Imnukshila on February 13 inaugurated the newly constructed ‘Farmers’ Market’ at Impur Lemjem and ‘rostrum’ at Longjang village playground, Mokokchung.  Speaking as special guest, Imnukshila congratulated the VDB secretaries of Kobulong block for successfully completing the marketing complex (marketing shed and a restaurant).  She also thanked the Walling clan of Sungratsu village for donating the site.  The special guest said that the complex would go a long way in promoting the farmers produce from the area since the site was in a strategic location. Action against persons disrupting movement of vehicles in Meghalaya

Meghalaya government has directed all district magistrates to take strict action against anyone attempting to disrupt free movement of vehicles across the State.  The directive was issued by Commissioner and Secretary for Transport department,  Meban Synrem after the Meghalaya Joint Action Committee of Commercial Vehicles (MJACCV) announced a “48-hour road-blockade” starting from 5 am of February 15 to mount pressure on the State government to reduce the spiral rate of petrol and diesel in the State.  While terming the “road blockade” as “uncalled”,  the senior Transport department official informed that the State government is actively considering further reduction in petrol…

AASAA repatriate demand for ST status in Bokajan

Around 500 supporters of All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA), Karbi Anglong District Committee (KADC) today organised a mass rally in Bokajan demanding ‘Schedule Tribe’ (ST) status for the Adivasi people of Assam and ST(H) status for those residing in the sixth schedule areas as of KarbiAnglong, Dima Hasao and others. PSDTTU backs NTTU

Pungro Sub-Division Timber Traders’ Union (PSDTTU) has expressed shock on the illegal taxation being imposed upon the traders which it termed was a “blatant and unacceptable”.  While backing Nagaland Timber Traders’ Union (NTTU) for raising the issue, the union has appealed to the state government to take action against the erring officials.  The union president, JB. Shahoto in a statement has also condemned the action of the officials, who at their “whimsical state” has resumed the taxation. Cong in Assam launches Bus Yatras ahead of polls

Centre sanctions bridge between Majuli and Jorhat

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has sanctioned for construction of a major bridge over river Brahmaputra to connect the world’s largest inhabited river island Majuli in Assam amounting to Rs 925 crore. The work has been awarded to M/s UP State Bridge Corporation Ltd, reports The Sentinel Assam. The length of the bridge will be 8 km. The project is estimated to be completed within four years.
