Meghalaya lifts several COVID-19 restrictions

The Meghalaya government on Tuesday lifted several restrictions to ease the State out of its COVID-19 pandemic restriction.  Meghalaya had imposed several restrictions after the country went into a lockdown following the outbreak of the pandemic last year.  It however lifted some of the restrictions in the last Winter after the state witnessed a decline on COVID-19 infection.   Several restrictions still continue like the getting a mandatory COVID-19 test for visitors into the State and the night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am.  After a review meeting on COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that one of…

Student killed on suspicion of cattle smuggling

A 24-year-old student was allegedly killed by some BSF jawans in a village in Tripura along the India-Bangladesh border over suspicion that he was a cattle smuggler, police said. A senior police official said that Jasim Mia was killed by the BSF troopers in the wee hours on Monday at Debipur village under Belonia sub-division in southern Tripura. A BSF official said that their troopers fired in self defence as Jasim had attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon. The BSF is yet to obtain further details about the incident. The opposition Congress in Manipur on Monday staged a protest against incessant hike in fuel prices at the gate of Imphal oil depot. Meghalaya to upscale educational facilities

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday said that the State Government has embarked upon itself the responsibility to upscale educational facilities from elementary level.  “In the current financial year, we will renovate at least 200 LP schools in the State. For each LP schools we have allocated Rs. 40 lakh for the renovation. 3,986 healthcare workers vaccinated in Manipur

As many as 3,986 healthcare workers were vaccinated since the COVID-19 inoculation drive began in Manipur. A total of 3,986 healthcare workers were inoculated against targeted beneficiaries of 7,310 on the first phase of the drive which commenced from January 16 last, said state health officials on Sunday. The drive was in progress in 10 centres across the state, the officials added, during a news conference held at the state health directorate office today. Agitators vandalise NSU in Manipur

Five policemen hurt in scuffle As many as five police personnel were injured as agitators armed with deadly weapons intruded into the under construction permanent campus of the National Sports University and ransacked the campus on Friday. The agitators further torched some makeshift camps of the labourers, vandalised machineries and damaged a car parked inside the NSU campus belonging to a policeman guarding the campus, reports said. A civil society group on Thursday demanded the arrest of a Cabinet minister’s brother for allegedly carrying out illegal mining and holding him indirectly responsible for the death of six coal miners in East Jaintia Hills district recently.
