Manipur college teachers demand 7th UGC Pay

Teachers of government colleges in Manipur on Thursday staged a sit-in-protest to resume their suspended agitations demanding implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018. The teachers’ strike, however, did not affect normal classes as they announced continuing taking classes even as they resumed the agitation in consideration of  the interest of the students attending classes with the reopening of schools and colleges from Wednesday. “We will continue conducting classes during the agitation considering the interest of the students appearing in the semester exams to be commenced from coming April,” FEGOCTA general secretary Dr N Somerendro said. Country’s first child empowerment centre in Sikkim

Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday inaugurated the first of its kind ‘Child Empowerment Centre’ at Poklok in Denchung. The centre has been set up by Social Justice and Welfare Department under Integrated Child Protection Scheme, Northeast Now reported. The project was supported by the State Institute of Rural Department and Panchayati Raj (SIRDPR), Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim. The Centre has been funded under Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), Ministry of Panchayati Raj. This centre is one of the first in the country and aims at protecting the rights of the child. Schools, colleges re-open in Manipur after gap of 10 months

After a gap of almost 10 months and amid the COVID-19 pandemic, schools and colleges classes from Class one and above reopened on Wednesday in Manipur. Almost all the schools and colleges re-opened and resumed normal classes.  Almost all teaching staff attended while students’ attendances were reportedly low on the day of the resumption of the normal physical classes. The transport workers’ unions have called for series of chakka bandh in Assam in support of their various demands including implementation of the welfare scheme for the private transport workers proposed by the Assam government. The series of agitational porogramme includes 24-hour chakka bandh on January 27, 2021, 48-hour chakka bandh on February 12-13 during the Assam Assembly session, Northeast Now reported.
