Piaggio launches Apé WavE to expand affordable electric passenger mobility

Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. has expanded its electric passenger vehicle portfolio with the launch of the Apé WavE, an electric three-wheeler designed for the affordable L3 passenger EV segment. Priced at a starting ex-showroom rate of ₹2.55 lakh in Pune, the new model aims to cater to shared mobility, fixed-route transport and short-distance passenger operations with a focus on affordability, comfort and operational efficiency. The vehicle is powered by a 5.4 kWh battery delivering 3 kW peak power and 25 Nm of torque, offers a certified range of 140 km, an estimated real-world range of about 110 km, a top speed of 40 kmph, 19% gradeability and a charging time of around three hours and 45 minutes. It also features a full-metal monocoque body, passenger-focused suspension, 180 mm ground clearance and a spacious cabin.

Piaggio Chairman and Managing Director Diego Graffi said the Apé WavE was developed to meet the growing demand for dependable and economical electric passenger mobility while supporting sustainable transportation and livelihood generation. Executive Vice President Amit Sagar said the vehicle balances acquisition cost, operating savings and passenger comfort, making it suitable for drivers and fleet operators.

The launch is expected to strengthen electric mobility options in Agartala, where demand for cost-effective last-mile transport is gradually increasing. Fleet operators and auto-rickshaw owners in the city could benefit from lower operating and maintenance costs, while the vehicle’s compact design and urban-focused performance may support the wider adoption of electric passenger transport as charging infrastructure and EV awareness continue to improve across Tripura.
