MG’s multi-NEV platform signals next phase of India’s clean mobility transition

JSW MG Motor India’s unveiling of MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), India’s first Multi New Energy Vehicle (NEV) platform, marks a strategic shift towards flexible electrification as automakers respond to evolving consumer preferences and policy support for cleaner transportation. The modular architecture supports Electric Vehicles (EVs), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Range Extender Electric Vehicles (REEVs), enabling the company to cater to multiple market segments from a single technology platform. The company plans to launch one EV and one PHEV based on MG ADAPT by FY 2026-27.

The platform combines a dedicated hybrid engine, a dedicated battery system, India’s first 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit and the world’s first Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission. Supported by an Intelligent Energy Management System, it automatically switches between Pure Electric Drive, Series Hybrid Drive, Parallel Hybrid Drive and Engine Direct Drive to maximise efficiency, performance and driving comfort. The architecture also supports REEV technology, offering an electric-first driving experience while extending range through an onboard petrol-powered generator. Managing Director AnuragMehrotra said MG ADAPT provides customers the flexibility to choose the energy solution best suited to their driving needs while serving as the technological backbone of the company’s future New Energy Vehicle portfolio.

In Bhubaneswar, MG’s multi-energy strategy aligns with Odisha’s growing focus on electric mobility and investment in charging infrastructure. As buyers increasingly seek lower running costs without sacrificing long-distance usability, the availability of EV, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and range-extender options on a common platform could widen market adoption. For dealers and component suppliers in Bhubaneswar, the launch also signals fresh business opportunities as the region’s new energy vehicle ecosystem continues to expand alongside rising consumer demand.
