Former Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Kanhaiya Kumar joined the Congress party in the presence of Rahul Gandhi at the party headquarters in Delhi on September 28. Independent MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani, however, extended support saying he cannot join the party formally on technical grounds. Mevani, currently an independent MLA from Gujarat’s Vadgam, had earlier announced that both he and Kanhaiya Kumar would join the Congress.
