Sikkim State Day 2026 preparations in full swing ahead of Vice President visit

Preparations for the upcoming State Day Celebrations 2026 in Sikkim have gathered pace with the state government holding a high-level coordination meeting at the Tashiling Secretariat on Tuesday to review arrangements for the event, which will be attended by the Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary of Sikkim, R. Telang, who reviewed the overall programme schedule and assessed the responsibilities assigned to different departments for the successful organisation of the celebrations. Officials said the State Day celebrations are expected to be held on a large scale this year in view of the visit of the Vice President. During the meeting, discussions focused on logistical arrangements, coordination among departments, transport management, hospitality, venue preparation and security measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme.

The Chief Secretary directed all concerned departments to maintain close coordination and complete preparations within the stipulated timeline. Special emphasis was reportedly laid on security arrangements and protocol management considering the presence of the country’s second-highest constitutional authority at the event. Senior officers from various line departments assured full cooperation and support for the successful conduct of the Vice President’s visit and the seamless execution of the State Day celebrations. Officials also discussed crowd management, traffic regulation, accommodation arrangements and other administrative requirements linked to the programme. The conclave is expected to encourage such creators by providing them visibility and a platform to connect directly with policymakers, artists and cultural organisations.

Sources said discussions may also include topics such as responsible digital storytelling, promotion of local traditions, preservation of indigenous culture and the use of digital tools for tourism promotion. The initiative is also being seen as part of the state government’s broader effort to involve youth in cultural promotion and creative industries. Many young people in Sikkim are increasingly turning towards content creation as a profession or side career, especially through platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.
