Gold and silver prices declines

Gold prices in the national capital fell by Rs 60 to Rs 52,811 per 10 grams in line with losses in the precious metal in global markets. Silver fell by Rs 575 to Rs 58,985 per kg from Rs 59,560 per kg in the previous trade. The rupee rose 11 paise to 79.52 against the US dollar in afternoon trade on lower crude oil prices and foreign fund inflows.

Assam Mizoram border talks: Delegates to meet in Aizawl

Representatives of Assam and Mizoram are set to hold yet another round of talks to resolve the decades-old border dispute between the two states. West Bengal Police summons Assam businessman, Ashok Kumar Dhanuka

West Bengal Police has summoned Assam-based businessman Ashok Kumar Dhanuka to probe the Jharkhand MLAs cash seizure case. The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has stuck a notice on the gate of Dhanuka's residence in Guwahati, asking her to appear before investigators in Kolkata on Monday. Earlier, three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand – Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap, and Naman Bixal Kongari – were arrested by the West Bengal Police on July 31, after seizing Rs 49 lakh in cash from a car in which they were traveling.

Assam logs 39 new Covid-19 cases

The northeastern state of Assam has reported 39 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed the tally to 7,41,541. The death toll remains at 6,673. However, 1,347 Covid-19 positive patients have died from other causes since April, 2020. Kamrup(M) which primarily comprises the Guwahati city reported 8 fresh cases, six cases in Dibrugarh, five each in Cachar and Kamrup Rural and four in Sivasagar. According to the reports, Assam currently has 4,006 active cases.

Woman Held in Assam for Suspected Links with Proscribed Ansarul Islam

A woman has been arrested in Assam's Dhubri district for alleged links with the banned Bangladeshi organization Ansarul Islam. Bilasipara Sub-Divisional Police Officer Birinchi Bora said Jahura Khatun, whose husband Abu Tallah is also wanted for her alleged links with the outfit. He was trying to protect people associated with Ansarul Islam, Bora said. “Two mobile phones were seized from him, one of which was burnt. We are trying to recover data from burnt phone. So far, we have collected enough evidence from his interrogation and other phones that he was in contact with members of the organization," Bora said.

The government of Assam has allowed up to five percent of the total area of tea plantations to be used for eco-friendly tea tourism, green energy and animal husbandry as well as cultivation of agricultural crops. 18 people fall ill after consuming prasad in Majuli, Assam

The incident took place on Friday in Maharichuk area near Garmur of the Island district. According to the reports, the villagers attended a religious program and soon after consuming the ‘prasad’, the people complained of stomachache and vomiting.
