West Bengal Police summons Assam businessman, Ashok Kumar Dhanuka

West Bengal Police has summoned Assam-based businessman Ashok Kumar Dhanuka to probe the Jharkhand MLAs cash seizure case. The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has stuck a notice on the gate of Dhanuka's residence in Guwahati, asking her to appear before investigators in Kolkata on Monday. Earlier, three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand – Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap, and Naman Bixal Kongari – were arrested by the West Bengal Police on July 31, after seizing Rs 49 lakh in cash from a car in which they were traveling.

Assam logs 39 new Covid-19 cases

The northeastern state of Assam has reported 39 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed the tally to 7,41,541. The death toll remains at 6,673. A woman has been arrested in Assam's Dhubri district for alleged links with the banned Bangladeshi organization Ansarul Islam. The northeastern state of Assam reported 431 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the whole caseload to 7,40,449. As per the report, 7,833 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the day.
