Anti-Corruption, two Assam government employees held

Assam Police CPRO Rajeev Saikia said that a complaint was received in the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Gopinath Das, additional writer, o/o sub-registrar, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Tamulpur sought a bribe from the complainant. The complainant approached the Directorate to take legal action against the above-mentioned government servant for issuing marriage certificates and refusing to pay bribes related to a couple. Assam on Thursday reported 214 new COVID-19 cases, with one dead.  The state has so far reported 7, 42, 320 cases and 6,674 deaths. The new death was reported from the Sonitpur district, while Dibrugarh reported most of the new cases at 28, followed by Tinsukia (23) and Cachar (19).

Assam-Arunachal border row committees to end visits to disputed areas by Aug 31

The regional committees formed to look into the ongoing border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will conclude a joint visit to the border area by the end of the month. The chief ministers of the two states, Himanta Biswa Sharma of Assam and Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh, signed the Namsai Declaration on July 15 in an attempt to defuse the seven-decade-old border dispute between the two states. NLC India Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Coal, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to develop a 1,000 MW solar power project in Assam. Gold prices in the national capital fell by Rs 60 to Rs 52,811 per 10 grams in line with losses in the precious metal in global markets. Silver fell by Rs 575 to Rs 58,985 per kg from Rs 59,560 per kg in the previous trade.
