Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm on Monday amid widespread sloganeering and protests by the Congress and other opposition parties on various issues including price hike. Opposition parties started protesting again when the House reconvened at 12 noon for a question-and-answer session after the adjournment of the morning session. Smriti Irani to met President Droupadi Murmu

On Friday, Union Minister Smriti Irani met President Draupadi Murmu, a day after party leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury led the charge against the Congress for its ‘Rashtrapati’ remarks. Jihadi gets arrested in Assam

An alleged jihadist with links to Bangladesh-based terror outfit Ansarul Islam has been arrested from Assam's Morigaon district where he runs a madrassa. Morigaon Superintendent of Police Aparna Notarjan said that on Wednesday, the police raided the madrasa of Sohria village under Moirabari police station and arrested Mustafa. It is alleged that Mustafa was involved in various financial transactions of terrorist organizations and anti-national activities. The investigation also revealed that he had sheltered a foreign 'wanted person' in the madrasa. Centre approves cancer hospital in Odisha

The Center in collaboration with Tata Trusts will establish a hospital in Jatni for cancer treatment with a skill development center for oncology treatment at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) campus. Odisha reports new Covid 19 cases

Odisha recorded 1,174 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, with one more death reported. According to the report, there are 7,011 active COVID-19 cases, of which 1,642 are in the Khurda district and 1,290 in Sundargarh. The positivity rate for testing was 5.46 percent among 21,488 samples. And 155 of the new patients were children. The number of infections rose to 13,09,085, of which 12,92,885 have recovered.

Gold and silver rise in price

On Wednesday, gold prices rose by Rs 115 to Rs 51,166 per 10 grams in the national capital. Earlier, the yellow metal settled at Rs 51,051 per 10 grams. Silver also increased by Rs 482 to Rs 55,485 per kg. In the international market, gold rose to USD 1,723 per ounce and silver was flat at USD 18.72 per ounce.

Gang hacks man to death in Kerala

A 63-year-old man, who was sleeping in his house, was hacked to death by a group of assailants in Kullukkallur in this north Kerala district. This incident happened on Tuesday morning. Deceased Abbas is a marriage broker by profession in Bhandumthara. According to the police, the killers came in an autorickshaw, knocked on the door, took him out of the house and hacked him to death with sharp weapons. Some suspects were taken into custody but no arrests have been made so far, police added. The victim is currently undergoing treatment.
