Borgohain elected as IBA Athletes Committee Chair

Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohin has been elected as the chairperson and voting member of the Board of Directors of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Athletes Committee. Bourgohain get the highest number of votes in the election held at the 2022 Women's World Championship. “I feel honoured to have been elected as the chair of IBA’s Athlete’s Committee, I expected to become a member, but never thought that I will also become the chair of the committee, this will help me promote Indian boxing and especially women boxing to other boxers of the world,” Borgohain said in a release.

India logs 2,124 Covid cases and deaths

India reported a one-day rise of 2,124 new coronavirus infections, taking the tally to 4,31,42,192, while active cases rose to 14,971, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The death toll from COVID-19 rose to 5,24,507 with 17 more deaths, data updated at 8 am showed. The daily positivity rate was 0.46 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.49 percent, according to the health ministry. The number of people who have recovered from the disease has increased to 4, 26, 02, 714, while the death rate has been recorded at 1.22 percent.

PM to visit Hyderabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the city on Thursday to participate in the 20th year celebrations of the Indian School of Business (ISB). He is scheduled to attend the graduation ceremony of ISB's postgraduate program class of 2022 and address the students. Flying of Remotely Controlled Drones or Para-Gliders or Remotely Controlled Micro-Light Aircraft shall be prohibited above a radius of 5 km from the ISB at Gachibowli. Further, the ban will be in force from 12 pm on May 25 to 6 pm on May 26, police said.

Neeraj to train in Finland for Diamond League

Olympic gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is set to shift his training base from Turkey to Finland which will host the Paavo Nurmi Games, where he will take on Johannes Vetter on June 14. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) said "the four-week training camp has been sanctioned by the government's Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and will cost the Sports Ministry an estimated Rs 9.8 lakh." Paperless budget to be submitted by Punjab govt

On Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said his government will present a paperless budget that will save 34 tonnes of paper as well as save Rs 21 lakh to the state exchequer. NIA files chargesheet against Ansarullah case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary charge sheet against a founder of Tamil Nadu's Ansarullah group, al-Qaeda and ISIS supporters. The agency has filed a charge sheet against Divan Mujipeer under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Police constable dead in Srinagar

A police constable was killed by terrorists in the Soura area of the city on Tuesday. According to reports, terrorists fired at Constable Saifullah Qadri at his house in the Anchar area of Soura. Officials said Qadri was rushed to SKIMS Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Gold gains Rs 25; silver Rs 428

According to HDFC Securities, gold rose by Rs 25 to Rs 51,027 per 10 grams in the national capital on Tuesday, in line with the rupee's depreciation along with a strong trend in international precious metal prices. 2 arrested for cheating job aspirants

Two persons have been arrested in an inter-state operation for allegedly duping unemployed youths on the pretext of providing them with jobs. Accused Tushar and Akram were residents of Uttar Pradesh and were working from Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand. They were arrested on the spot. A 23-year-old woman from Delhi filed a complaint on the Home Ministry's cybercrime portal alleging that some unidentified people duped her into paying Rs 12,000 when she applied for a job on social media. Film ‘Padavettu’ to release in September

Nivin Pauly's political thriller "Padavetthu", is set to release on September 2 around the Onam festival. Backed by Yudlee Films, the cinematic arm of music label Saregama, the Malayalam film is co-produced by Sunny Wayne and directed by Leeju Krishna.
