Senior Congress leader in Karnataka resigns

Veteran Congress leader HN Chandrasekhar, popularly known as Chief Minister Chandru, quit the party's Karnataka unit citing personal reasons. In his resignation letter to Congress state president DK Sivakumar on Saturday, Chandru said he had joined the "Congress with a vast historical background" to serve the people. “I am satisfied that I have fulfilled my duty sincerely. I am resigning from primary membership. I express my gratitude to everyone in the team who supported and loved me,” he said. Congress sources said that Chandru was aspirant for Rajya Sabha ticket and decided to give way after being denied.

JNU student held for molesting fellow student

Delhi Police has registered a case against a JNU student for allegedly molesting a colleague. The case was filed on Saturday based on the complaint of a third year student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The accused is also a worker of the All India Students' Association (AISA), police said. On Saturday, AISA said the complaint has been forwarded to its Gender Sensitization Committee against Sexual Harassment for investigation and the worker in question has been asked not to participate in organizational activities.

Fire at 2 hospitals in Delhi

Two fires broke out at Safdarjung Hospital in south Delhi and Makkar Multispeciality Hospital in the eastern part of the city on Friday morning, but no casualties were reported, officials said. Four fire tenders were rushed to Makkar Multispeciality Hospital in East Delhi's Lakshmi Nagar after a fire broke out on the roof of the facility at 8.10 am, they said. UP woman succumbs to burns by in-laws

A woman died of burns on Thursday. An FIR has been registered against her husband and other family members at Jahanabad police station. According to her family members, she got married to a man from Sajna village in 2021. The in-laws allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from the woman's family as dowry. Two fresh COVID-19 cases in Andamans

The number of COVID-19 cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 10,043 on Friday as two more people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. So far 9,910 people have recovered from the disease and 129 patients have died from the infection. The administration has so far tested over 7.36 lakh samples for COVID-19.

COVID-19 cases rise to 15,814

India reported 2,710 new coronavirus infections in a day, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,31,47,530, while active cases reached 15,814, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. The death toll rose to 5,24,539 with 14 new fatalities. Active cases comprise 0.04 percent of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.75 percent, the ministry said. Thane district reports 59 Covid cases

With the addition of 59 more cases, the number rose to 7, 09,725 in Maharashtra's Thane district on Thursday. As no one succumbed to the infection during the day, the death toll in the district was unchanged at 11,895. In neighboring Palghar district, the number of cases stood at 1,63,612, while the death toll stood at 3,407.
