UP govt not to give grant to any new madrassa

The Uttar Pradesh government will not give grants to any new madrasas, the state cabinet has decided. UP Minister of State for Minority Welfare Danish Azad Ansari told PTI on Wednesday that the decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath a day ago. Hurriyat calls for shutdown in Kashmir

Maha secretariat reopens for public again

Woman found dead in UP over dowry harassment

The body of a 27-year-old woman, who was harassed by her in-laws for dowry, was found hanging from the ceiling of her house on Monday. The incident happened in Chorama village under the Jaisinghpur police station. According to reports, Manisha's body was found hanging with a saree in a room of her house around 8 pm on Sunday. According to Manisha's family, she married Sunil in 2020 and was harassed by her in-laws for dowry. Hes father Shankar Nishad filed a police complaint against Sunil and his in-laws.

Twenty-two stolen motorcycles recovered

Two members of a motorcycle-lifter gang operating across the state were arrested in Haryana's Ambala district on Monday. 22 stolen motorcycles were recovered from them. With their arrest, at least nine cases of motorcycle theft in Ambala have been solved, a Haryana Police spokesperson said. Gold price dips to Rs 46

Gold prices fell by Rs 46 to Rs 49,754 per 10 grams in the national capital on Monday, in line with global trends, according to HDFC Securities. The precious metal ended at Rs 49,800 per 10 grams from the previous trade. Silver rose by Rs 213 to Rs 59,452 per kg from Rs 59,239 in the previous trade. Gold prices were marginally lower at USD 1,797 per ounce and silver at USD 20.96 per ounce in international markets.

Earthquakes rock parts of Assam, Meghalaya

Two 3.9-magnitude earthquakes struck Meghalaya and Assam in less than 24 hours. The first earthquake, recorded at 9.47 pm on Sunday, was centered at a depth of 12 km in Meghalaya's Nongpoh area, the second at a depth of 55 km at Assam's Nagaon. According to reports, the earthquake was felt in parts of central and north Assam after the second earthquake hit the state at 3.22 pm on Monday. No loss of life or damage to property was reported.

Ganja worth Rs 2crore seized in Assam

Police have seized 800 kg of ganja worth over two crore rupees from a truck in Assam's Kamrup Metropolitan district and arrested one person in this connection, a senior officer said. A team of Guwahati City Police has raided Jorabat area bordering Meghalaya and seized narcotics. According to reports, the truck was on its way from Manipur to Tamil Nadu when the vehicle was impounded. Investigation is ongoing.

Five additional judges have been appointed

Five additional judges were appointed in three high courts on Saturday. The Law Ministry's Judicial Department has issued a notification. Three judicial officers have been appointed as Additional Judges in Calcutta High Court, one Advocate each in Chhattisgarh and Kerala High Courts as Additional Judges. And nine advocates were appointed as judges of the Delhi High Court.
