Bengal Safari to open after taking Covid safety measures

The Bengal Safari, a state government-run wild animals park, in Darjeeling district and other tourist spots under the forest department will be opened after taking all precautionary measures to check the spread of coronavirus, a minister said on Sunday. “We don’t want a spike in coronavirus cases. We will not open the Bengal Safari and other tourist spots hastily,” Forest Minister Rajib Banerjee said. The government closed the tourist spots under the department in March in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. A meeting will be held on Monday on this issue, the minister said. Massive Fire At Chemical Factory In Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: A massive fire broke out at a chemical factory in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad this afternoon. Over 10 fire trucks have been rushed to the spot and efforts are on to control the fire. Videos and photos shared on social media show thick smoke billowing out from the factory located in the city's Pandav Nagar area. The fire trucks were called at around 1.50pm to the spot.

New Delhi: A Delhi Police constable allegedly fired at his colleague after a heated argument inside the Seemapuri police station in northeast Delhi, officials said on Saturday. The incident took place Friday night when constable Amod Bhadana returned to the police station after completing his beat duty, they said. Coronavirus treatment: Govt approves use of Dexamethasone steroid.

The Union Health Ministry on Saturday released an updated clinical management protocol for COVID-19 cases. This includes the advice to use Dexamethasone as an alternative to Methylprednisolone for managing moderate to severe cases. “The change has been made after considering the latest available evidence and expert consultation,” noted a senior official of the Ministry. Dexamethasone is cheap, costs less than 30 paise, a strip of 10 comes at Rs 3, and some 20 companies make the drug in India. Tirupur North police station closed after wife of SI tests positive for Covid-19.

The North Police station at nearby Tirupur was closed temporarily on Saturday as a woman SI, wife of a sub-inspector there, tested positive. The wife, a sub-inspector attached to Chennai, had come to Tirupur on June 24 on leave and her blood and swab samples were taken the next day, along with that of her husband, police said. Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 on the Richter scale hit 332 km Northeast of Jammu and Kashmir's Hanle on Saturday. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremors were felt in the area at 12:32 hours today. One person was killed in a gas leak that took place in a company in Andhra Pradesh's Nandyal area of Kurnool district.
