Increase in tiger population in Assam tiger reserves

Assam has been witnessing surge of tigers in the state, Assam since last year.  Recently, a report was released in government data on International Tiger Day about the numbers of tigers the state is serving. As per the report, Assam currently has 227 tigers. According to earlier reports, in the year 2006 Assam had 70 tigers, the figure rose to 143 in 2010. In 2014, the population of the animal further increased to 167. It was 190 in 2018 and 227 in 2022 respectively. On Sunday, during a Press Conference Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announces programs for 15th August Independence Day celebration in the state, Assam Assam Chief Minister directed Independence Day celebration to kickstart from 8 August in village level program. From August 9-14, every gaon panchayat will plant 75 saplings to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. On August 13, the Assam Police will organize a special march, surrounding the Dighalipukhuri tank in central Guwahati. In a recent Cabinet meeting, the Assam Government has approved an amendment to re-designate two new posts for tourism services in Assam. On Wednesday, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has announced new regulation regarding the Teacher Eligibility Test qualification for the candidates. From 1 to 15 October Assam CM decides to stay in villages

On Tuesday, officials informed about Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be spending 15 days in rural area along with his Cabinet Ministers. According to the sources, the program is initiated to take stock of the ground situation of the state government’s beneficiary schemes and development work. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Cabinet Ministers will shift to the selected rural area on October 1 to 15 October, 2023.
